The Radiant Buddha said:  Regard this fleeting world like this:
Like stars fading and
vanishing at dawn,
Like bubbles on a fast
moving stream,
Like morning dewdrops evaporating on blades of grass,
Like a candle flickering
in a strong wind,
Like echoes,
mirages and phantoms,
hallucinations,
And like a dream.
                         ~the 8 Similes of Illusions

In nature, actions and
reactions are continuous.  Everything is connected to everything else.  No one part, nothing is isolated.  Everything is linked and
interdependent.  Everything is connected to everything else.  Each question receives the correct answer.
                                       ~Unattributed

Too often, people think that solving the world’s problems is based on conquering the earth, rather than touching the earth, touching ground.

Artist’s Statement

The photographs in this exhibit were taken mostly within the last year in  Hawaii, Japan, Taiwan, California and Mexico. The exhibit was assembled specifically for the
Mu-Ryang-Sa Buddhist Temple in Honolulu, Hawaii.

The title and theme of the exhibit are derived from some of the most basic tenets of Buddhist thought.  Many of the photographs were created and all were selected in the context of this theme.  However, the artist urges the viewer not to analyze the relationship of each photograph to the theme, but rather adopt an approach of “wu-wei” (no action) where the mind is silenced and the work is allowed to express itself.

It is the artist’s greatest hope that the images will instill a mood of thoughtfulness, contemplation and awareness as the viewer journeys out into the world.

About the images and the prints...

The artist uses only natural light, believing that the light of early morning or late afternoon provides the most gentle and subtle balance of color, more interesting shadows, and unique angles of illumination.

All of the prints in this exhibit were made by the artist.  They are of archival quality and will be issued in a limited edition of ten prints per image. One additional limited edition of prints of smaller dimensions will also be issued.

About the Exhibit...

The exhibit was held at the Mu-Ryang-Sa Buddhist Temple's Exhibition Hall, Honolulu, Hawaii, from March 1 to May 30, 2007.  The photographer wishes to thank the Abbot, the monks,  and the members and staff of the temple for their support, advice, assistance and many kindnesses.

For an article about the exhibit, please see the Honolulu Star Bulletin's May 1, 2007 edition.
